Around 1990, the first ventilated ice cream display cases began to appear. They are called ventilated display cases because cold air is forced to pass over the ice cream. Prior to this, freezers were static (without ventilation) and the ice cream was placed about 15 cm below the rim of the equipment, making it difficult to see.
Ventilation allowed ice cream to be placed above equipment level, surrounded by transparent glass. Initially, single-pane glass was used and fogged up frequently. Over time, double-pane glass and, later, heated glass (either single or double-pane) were developed.
The trend of displayed ice cream spread worldwide, spawning countless display case models, many designed by renowned design firms. Consumers began to 'eat with their eyes' as they admired those colorful frozen treats. Sales simply doubled—an unparalleled success.
Finamac quickly launched its first display case model, named the V17 WAVE or 'Open and Closed', featuring one concave and one convex module that formed an elegant wave of flavors. Hundreds were sold each year over a period of roughly 10 years.
