This revolutionary concept originated in 1904 at the hands of Harry H. Miller (Canton, Ohio - USA). His legendary Miller Globe Horizontal Brine Freezer introduced brine circulation around a horizontal cylinder, drastically and efficiently increasing heat exchange, freezing speed, and absolute texture control compared to old, slow vertical machines operated manually or by primitive motors.
Over the decades, the system was refined by major global names such as the traditional Italian manufacturer MARK, which consolidated the production of these batch freezers in the 1970s. At that time, cylinders were characterized by a long format and small diameter. Inside, two rotating helical bars with plastic scrapers removed frozen ice cream from the inner wall, promoting air incorporation and using helical force to push and extract the batch automatically through the front cover. The mix was fed via a funnel at the rear, requiring lateral space for operator movement.
The great advantage of long cylinders was their vast thermal contact area, ensuring ultra-fast freezing. However, because they extracted ice cream at a softer consistency, they required a subsequent freezing stage in external freezers. This was precisely where Finamac took a leap ahead of its time.

With cutting-edge engineering, Finamac elevated this technology to unprecedented heights: manufacturing long cylinders with the same engineering used in rocket tube production! This innovation ensured an ultra-thin metal wall — multiplying thermal conductivity —, flawless cylindricity (drastically optimizing scraping), and an unprecedented mirror-finish internal surface, keeping blade wear to an absolute minimum. To crown this innovation, Finamac developed the industry's first 3-bar helical beater (replacing traditional 2-bar designs), delivering incomparable extraction force capable of expelling significantly firmer ice cream.
The result? An iconic line of machines recognized to this day as the most attractive, robust, and amazingly fast ever built. The acclaimed 'H' Family (for Horizontal) featured three legendary models: Mini H (up to 9 liters per batch), H (up to 15 liters), and H CD (up to 30 liters per batch).
While European trends in the 1960s/70s shifted toward shorter cylinders with heavy beaters — facilitating cleaning and extraction, yet requiring higher energy consumption and losing freezing speed —, Finamac charted its own course. In 2005, when launching the renowned PRO 4 and PRO 16 (absolute sales hits to this day), the company adopted shorter cylinders but rejected conventional design. Finamac patented the revolutionary 'branched scraper' solution: a central shaft featuring multiple metal stems equipped with spring-tensioned scraper blades.
